Notes

The Stereo Integrity HST-18D2 offers huge displacement capabilities and does really well in a moderate sized sealed enclosure. This is one of the highest displacement 18ís on the market thanks to the generous coil overhang, tall gap, the huge surround and large diameter spider pack. The sensitivity isnít the greatest but isnít bad considering the type of driver design and it has the thermal power handling to make up for it somewhat. The double shorting rings in the motor help keep the inductance somewhat managed and linear with coil position as well. It isnít a mid-woofer by any means but has enough of a top end to be used up to the 100-150Hz range is needed. This type of extra long excursion driver can work in many designs but is really well suited to a small to moderate sized sealed design where it can leverage all of the xmax to still produce reasonable output in the deepest bass frequencies from a reasonable amount of cabinet without damaging itself or being over driven easily. It requires a bit less power than initially expected to get maximum performance from it as well. This driver is very similar to the Sundown ZV4 series but is optimized to be a bit better for home audio or theater with a more compliant suspension for a lower FS which allows it to be a bit more suited to the really deep sub bass frequency range. Overall this is one of the better drivers for extreme deep bass reproduction that has been evaluated thus far.
